Hi everyone,
Welcome to the ’50 Days of Kindness’ blog.
We hope this challenge will help motivate you to practice kindness as a sport and inspire others to do the same.
Right now, so many of us are struggling. 2020 has been one of the toughest, most unprecedented years ever, on many levels. We have seen a worldwide pandemic change the way we live, work and interact with our family and friends. The financial burdens are very real and the mental health toll is climbing.
This is what inspired our family to start the ’50 Days of Kindness’ Challenge. Our goal is to turn 2020 around by finding new ways to spread kindness throughout our communities.
Each day, we’ll issue low-key ‘kindness’ challenges, such as writing a thank you note to a teacher or colleague or giving someone an expected compliment. We will also highlight local charities, small businesses & entrepreneurs and those who are making a difference in their communities.
You’re probably thinking, ‘Great idea, but I don’t have time’ or ‘How can we truly make an impact when we’re social distancing and wearing masks?’ But we’re here to tell you not only is it possible, it’s crucial. Right now, we need each other more than ever.
And as it turns out, random acts of kindness are not only good for the soul, they’re good for the brain too.
Doing something kind releases a hormone called Oxytocin (also known as the ‘love’ hormone), which is responsible for boosting our mood and making us feel friendlier, more trusting and generally, happier.
It also has the added benefit of being scalable - the more kind things you do, the better you feel.
So there is science behind that rush of happiness you experience when you do something kind for someone, without expecting anything in return. Click here for more inspiration from the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.
With this challenge, we hope to change the conversation and teach our kids, and learn from each other, about resilience and perseverance during difficult times.
Let’s all turn the last 50 days of 2020 around with optimism and positivity. Let’s be kind to one another and to those whom we don’t yet know. Let’s have fun and encourage our kids to make a difference. It all starts with a smile.
